Recap of the Labor Day

Haven't got chance to share with you what happened on Labor Day. Let me put it down before I forgot the details.

Dec 6,2010
As I passed the due date, we agreed OB's proposal to schedule the induction on December 9, 2010 at week 41+3. Also do the membranes stripping to try starting labor.

Dec 8, 2010
(0200)
Perhaps the membrane stripping really works or it's the time..I felt the contractions slowly begins but I could still manage to sleep
(0800)
Called the OB clinic, informed them that there's some spotting and contractions begun since midnight
(1100)
Contraction pattern is now 5-1-1. So we drove off to the hospital
(Noon)
Checked in to the Child Center and was assigned to use Room 302. Contractions were not very strong, I could still walk and talk and smile! My OB visited me during the lunch hour and asked the nurse to offer me some food.
The Nurse said ''No'' , but luckily my OB granted some food to me....haha...so I got a Turkey Sandwich! :>

(1800)
Has been watching Keroro and TV. The pain level is about 5 out of 10. Dilated to 5-6.  Only ate biscuits and jello for dinner. We thought we're half way down and expected the baby would be coming around mid-night.

(1900)
The OB came to visit me after office hour and she said she would see me again after 2-3 hours and she was hoping that the delivery would not be very far away.

(2200)
My OB came to check again but I was at 7-8 dilated. Seems like going quite slow after 7. The pain level was about 7-8. Quite tired after such long hours. I was on the Birth ball and kept walking most of the time. It was raining so heavily outside so the OB decided to go back home to see her kids first and then returned to the hospital and stay overnight to stand by for my delivery.

Dec 9, 2010
(0400)
OB broke my water and suggested me to do epidural. I was exhausted and did not want to suffer the pain any more. The anaesthetist came and did the injection at my lower back. The pain went away in about 5 minutes.

(0500)
Finally reached 10, However, I was too numb and could not do the pushing. Oh...now I really felt so frustrated. I prayed to God and hope the baby could come out quickly.

(0700)
OB came and checked my condition. Figured out that there was something wrong with the epidural. Oh no, I gotta wait for more hours until I resumed from the numb-stage.

(1230)
Get back my senses gradually. The nurse and Hugo helped me to try pushing. Hugo could actually see baby's head. But the baby seems to be a bit large to get through the tunnel. However, the OB knew that we hope to have a virginal-birth, she checked everything and said as long as the baby was doing okay. We could still wait for a little while.

(1445)
OB tried to turn baby's head in the right position but he's still inside. So we decided to do the vaccum as last attempt. We could only do it three times in a row and if it failed, we would go for C-section right away. The stand-by crew was all ready in the labor room.

(1500)
First time ~~~~~ Failed,  Second~~~~~Failed..., Third,  (the OB yielded and said " the baby is coming'') and all of a sudden...they put the baby on my chest!  (1508) ... ..I could feel the warmth and it's rather heavy. Thanks God! We did it. The OB and all the nurses were so happy. There were almost 10 people in the room at the time. Me + Hugo +OB(Dr Gandhi-list)+ nurse (Annie) + anaesthetist (Dr. Paris) + 2 child-care nurse (they bathe and do the basic checking)+ 1 pediatrician (a very quick check for the baby)+ 1 lab technician/ nurse(who did the blood test) ...oh yes plus the baby..total 10!

We fall in love with the little one at first sight.

A gift from God - Welcome our baby with love.

A brand new life has just begun.

Ladies & Gentlemen,

Our cute little baby, Atticus Lam, has arrived on December 9, 2010 at 15:08 (Pacific time) weighing 7 lbs 12 oz, 20.0 inches.

The labor process is rather a tough one yet it's all worth. Thanks God and the dedicated medical team that help us to get through. I felt much better now after resting for a few days. I'll take more rest and share with you all later on.

Stay Busy....

It's week 41 now. I have mixed feelings now. On one hand, it's good to enjoy the 'earned' times..so that I could watch movies and read books and do all the Christmas shopping...on the other hand, I am so curious how he looks like now...wishing that he could come out right at the next minute.

Anyway, we have done the Non-stress test at the hospital today and everything looks fine as usual. So we will keep on waiting and stay busy....

To our dear family and friends, thanks for all your support and blessings..We will keep you posted for any updates.

What is a nonstress test?

This simple, painless procedure is done during pregnancy to evaluate your baby's condition. During the test, your healthcare practitioner or a technician monitors your baby's heartbeat, first while the baby is resting and then while he's moving. Just as your heart beats faster when you're active, your baby's heart rate should go up while he's moving or kicking.

Baby Gift from Heidi

It's December!

X'mas tree is up!

Easy to read, funny little book

When is a pregnancy considered overdue?

A pregnancy is usually completed in 38 to 42 weeks. "Post-term pregnancy," "prolonged pregnancy" and "post-date pregnancy" are all words used to describe a pregnancy that lasts beyond 42 weeks. About 5% of pregnancies are post-term.

What if my pregnancy goes 1 week past the due date?

If your pregnancy lasts 1 week or more past your expected due date, your doctor will usually begin checking your baby more closely. Your doctor may check your baby's heartbeat by using an electronic fetal monitor once or twice a week. In addition, an ultrasound exam might be done to look at the amniotic fluid around your baby. Ultrasound can also be used to see how much your baby is moving. You should continue to feel your baby move throughout your pregnancy. Decreased fetal movement may be a sign that you need to call your doctor.

In addition, your doctor may begin checking your cervix to see if it's dilated and thinned. Your doctor may also recommend inducing (starting) labor.

Full-term @ 40-week

Lam BB is still happy in my tummy. The expected due date is on today, however, everything just goes on as usual. I didn't feel any contractions or whatever. We'll just wait and follow God's arrangement.  Stay tuned.
